Description
Please Note: This knife is brand new from the maker. He had traded the new leather sheath with it for a OD Green kydex sheath that was used with a customer at the Blade Show. The sheath shows some wear, shiney spots, scuffs etc. The price on this knife reflects the sheath being used.
Note: Treeman has decided to discontinue the Treeman Combat line of knives. We bought the remaining inventory he had complete at the Blade Show this year. These will be the last of these fine knives.
The Treeman TASS knife is rather special and has a unique origin. Jim Behring of Treeman knives has quietly made knives for Navy SEALS and special ops soldiers for years. I know allot of knife companies make that claim, but very few companies and makers actually make knives for them. Jim Behring is the real deal, there have been many articles written about him and about the TASS knife. In 2012 a SEAL platoon ask him to make a knife for all 22 members to honor a fallen comrade Matthew Kantor that was killed in action in Afghanistan in 2012. All 22 SEALS had input in designing the knife, they liked the Recon Hunter, but want a longer wider blade with more belly. The TASS (Teams and shit shank) was born, and yes the SEALS named it that. Behring made 3 prototypes and then settled on the design. The first 22 knives went to the SEALS and were marked E-4 which was Kantor’s call sign. He continued to make the TASS model and made it available to the public. The knife and the story were the subject of an article in the December 2014 issue of Blade Magazine. Jim has decided to discontinue the Treeman Combat line of knives and focus on his forged handmade hunters. We bought the remaining finished knives he had left, which included the last of the TASS models. Sadly, this will be the last of these fine blades.
I love the design, feel and balance of the knife, it has a distal taper and top swedge. The knife is designed to be a tough as hell field knife with good penetration. The kydex sheath has double belt loops for stability and velcro lining for a silent draw. The specs are below:
